Recently acquired for $650 million by China's Dalian Wanda Group, the Ironman Triathlon is making its waves once again in the tropical island of Bintan, just an hour's ferry away from Singapore. With marathons and "typical running events" becoming passe in Singapore, more people are looking to explore new grounds, new boundaries and ultimately, a new self. Although, this post has been presented by Ironman Bintan, all thoughts and opinions are from SingaSports.
If you love the Amazing Race TV series, you would probably find this local "Amazing race"-style event rather interesting. With 4 different race categories ranging from Mini (5km) to Long (45km), the Nathan Singapore City Race 2014 caters to those who love the adrenaline rush of navigating your way in Singapore to reach each checkpoint at the fastest time. Taxi drivers should give it a try. #JustSaying
Is anyone up for an adventure this new year? SAFRA might have the fix you need! SAFRA Avventura is back for it's 8th cycle on Sunday, 12 January 2014, bringing with it a day of challenges on land, water and air. The annual event pits participants in a variety of disciplines including running, kayaking, trail biking, rope works and other obstacles which you (and a partner) have to navigate through to get to the finish line!
If you are into running and are kinda bored of your typical road races and want to try out something new - check out Salomon X-Trail Run 2013. Last year's run was held at the Tampines Mountain Bike Park (MBP) and I must say it was one helluva trail route. Leaping over rocks, stomping mud puddles and trekking up steep gradient slopes were the recipe for a good legs-day, and not to mention an awesome Sunday workout. Running on tar and concrete might be your thing, but we would say, why not try trail? The level of concentration and muscles worked out during a trail run is of a different (higher) level but certainly is exciting. With the flag-off and end venue for this year's race have yet to be confirmed, we are keeping our fingers crossed for it to be held once again in Tampines MBP. Details inside!
As promised, here it is - the registration details for the much anticipated Nike We Run SG 2013! The registration will only be launched this Saturday, 28th September 2013 at 1000H. In our earlier Nike post, we mentiond that the run this year will have a unique 10km route which allows runners to choose their own race experience. Some of the possible experiences include selecting fast or slow routes, to even the choice of songs that will be played for that path taken. Nike runs' registrations have been known be snapped up really fast and with 20,000 expected runners this year, you can expect a similar response. Already close to 1000 people came down to the pre-registration Run Your Race held earlier this month at such a short notice; thus earning a complimentary priority slot to the Nike We Run SG 2013. More details inside!
"Look at the stars. Look how they shine for you. And everything you do, yeah they were all yellow." Well, just like the Coldplay's hit, indeed yellow was the colour of the day last Sunday (15th September 2013). Besides the clear blue skies and merry weather, yellow was probably the only stand out colour you would have seen at had you been around Changi Village Road. 10,000 people took to the streets sporting their yellow top as they made their way to Changi Prison Complex. No this was no prison break, but the only thing that was breaking into the prison compounds that morning were hearts full of love and acceptance for everyone. Yes, that’s right! We are talking about the Yellow Ribbon Prison Run (YRPR) 2013.
Formerly known as the Terry Fox Run, Run for Hope has become one of Singapore’s largest charity runs held annually. The non-competitive run, split between a 3.5km and a 10km route around Marina Bay is poised to raise awareness and support for cancer research. Why should you bother about cancer when you aren’t afflicted? It might be a painful truth to realise that 1 in 3 Singaporeans die of cancer and 28 people are diagnosed with cancer every day. Cancer remains as one of the leading causes of death in Singapore and the world; and raising funds for cancer research can only help with this issue. So what are you waiting for? Champion this cause by signing up for Run for Hope 2013!
The Nike We Run SG is back once again on 3rd November 2013. With a whole new different concept this time round, the running event gives runners the opportunity to choose the different experiences in the course of the run. Just to add to the excitement, Nike is encouraging you to run for your registration, thus providing complimentary priority slots (from what we heard its 1000 only) to runners who sign up early and complete the pre-registration activities, happening at Fort Canning Park on the 13th & 14th of September 2013 (Friday & Saturday). Well, for more information, read on sporty people! And oh, registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Just saying.
Bloomberg is proud to bring the Square Mile Relay to Singapore, one of the world's leading business and financial hubs. With the Singapore's running scene picking up at a rapid pace, it is the only logical sense to hold this popular London based sporting event right here in our city amidst the iconic Marina Bay skyline. The 24th October (Thursday) event held slightly before sundown, will see participants dashing between buildings and staircases in this unique one-mile course. This event however, is a 10-man corporate team challenge where teams vie for the prize money of $10,000 (which will be donated to the winning team's charity of choice from a shortlist of Singapore registered charities) as well as bragging rights as first ever champion in the Singapore debut. Imagine relieving back the times of yesteryears where you take part in your school's sports day relay...except that this time, its for corporate pride. Is your company ready? Are you ready? Its time #WeRunThisCity. For more info check out The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay Singapore.
